Dr. H S Ballal along with Lt. Gen. (Dr) M D Venkatesh unveil Manipal Cigna Pro Health Group Mediclaim Card to offer quality and affordable healthcare services

In a bid to offer quality and affordable medical facilities to the economically weaker sections of the society, Dr. H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor – MAHE along with Lt. Gen. (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor – MAHE unveiled Dr. G Shankar sponsored Manipal Cigna Pro Health Group Mediclaim Card initiated through Mogaveera Yuva Sangathane. Dr. PLNG Rao, Pro Vice-chancellor, MAHE & Dr. G Shankar, Trustee -Dr. G Shankar Family Trust, Udupi, Dr. Prashant Nalawade, Group Underwriting Dept. Manipal Cigna Insurance, Mr. Nilanjan Roy, Sr Vice President, Group & Global Health Business, and other dignitaries witnessed the unveiling of the Nobel scheme meant to enhance the quality of life for the people from economically weaker sections of the society.
The erstwhile Manipal Arogya Suraksha scheme which was sponsored by MAHE in the year 2006 was considered as a boon by the economically weaker sections of the society living in Udupi, Mangaluru and neighboring districts as this scheme provided comprehensive medical care at a nominal fee.
Dr. H S Ballal mentioned, “It is unique as the scheme offers both In-patient and Out-Patient facilities coupled with Personal accident Cover for all the members,” Further Dr. H S Ballal said, “The teamwork under the guidance of Dr. G Shankar has made it possible to get 52,504 families enrolled under the scheme within a short period and their dedication is highly commendable”
Sharing his thoughts, Lt. Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education said, “This rural health initiative & the association with MAHE would give Manipal Cigna Health Insurance company a better understanding of the requirements of rural masses and that they could structure simple and better policies for the betterment of the common people”
Dr. PLNG Rao, Pro-Vice-Chancellor said, “with over 2,23,000 lives covered under the scheme, our Hospitals will do whatever best possible to ensure better services to the patients. “
U S Shripathi, GM – Insurance, explained the scheme benefits as below:
- In-patient medical facilities up to Rs.50,000/- per family per year on a floater basis.
- Personal Accident cover for each of the members enrolled under the scheme & the compensation of Rs.50,000/- payable in case of an unfortunate event of the death of the member due to an accident.
- Out-Patient benefits at a special discounted rate for Consultation, Lab Investigations & CT Scan / MRI, etc.
The other key benefits of the scheme are; Covers Pre-existing diseases offers Cashless facility, age at entry is from 91 days to 85 years of age, Maternity benefit for the first two living childbirth, covers the medical cost of the new-born baby in case of medical exigencies, a nominal premium of Rs.1,500 /- including GST for a family of 5 members and ID cards issued for each family for easy identification.
