Thiruvananthapuram: Renowned botanist Satyajit Mayer said that interdisciplinary studies are essential in the modern era for solving specific problems in biology. He was speaking on the theme 'The Edge of a Cell, a Living Fabric Where Physics Meets Biology' at the Foundation Day of Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology.

The connection between physics and biology is very interesting. He said that when the concepts of physics are applied to biology, we see the relationship of nature itself.
Director Prof. Chandrabhas Narayana gave a brief description of the milestones and progress of RGCB established in 1990. Former Prime Minister VP Narasimha Rao laid the foundation stone in 1995 and former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam dedicated the institution to the nation on 18 November 2002.
Prof. said that RGCB is at the forefront of imparting knowledge along with its commitment to research. Chandrabhas pointed out. The institute has published several papers of high quality in six scientific fields.
A special facility for animal research will be established in the new campus to be opened at Akkulam. He said that it will have the most modern equipment.
