NISH is now on par with global standards: Minister K K Shailaja

The National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) here, which focuses on education, treatment and skills for the differently-abled, has now risen to world standards, said the state Minister for Health, Social Justice and Woman and Child Development, KK Shailaja.
The minister was speaking after inaugurating online the first audio-visual studio in the state for the differently-abled set up by NISH.
NISH has developed many of its facets. NISH's growth is in tandem with the programs of the Social Justice department. The audio-visual studio will be an asset for the development of the differently-abled. NISH is starting Kerala’s first graduate course in Occupational Therapy (OT), to meet the increasing demand for professionally trained Occupational Therapists in the healthcare sector in the state and outside, she pointed out.
NISH has evolved into an ideal haven for the differently-abled, said the Minister for Cooperation, Tourism and Devaswoms, Shri. Kadakampally Surendran.
Nish's new audio-visual studio will be a model for the country. NISH's news for the hearing impaired created during the time of natural calamities under the guidance of Social Justice Department Director and NISH Executive Director Smt Sheeba George IAS had gained wide acceptance, he said.
The Social Justice, Women and Child Development Secretary, Shri. Biju Prabhakar IAS delivered the keynote address. Smt Sheeba George IAS, NISH's Centre for Assistive Technology and Innovation Director Dr. K G Satheesh Kumar and Councillor of Kulathoor Ward, Smt Naja B took part in the function.
