Students with questions on waste management systems
Thiruvananthapuram: As a part of the campaign of 'Palamamuktam Navakeralam', the participation of children in the Haritasabha organized for the school students of the state under the leadership of the local self-government bodies was excellent. As the campaign entered its second phase, students were given an opportunity to review existing waste management systems in their area and ask for improvements.
The students had many questions to ask the public representatives about the anomalies observed while visiting the local government bodies. Around 100 students from various schools in the municipality along with their teachers participated in the Harithasabha. The students also presented innovative ideas to the local bodies to effectively manage the problems related to waste management.
VK Prashanth MLA inaugurated the Haritasabha organized at Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Vanashree Auditorium. He said children should take the responsibility of correcting adults who take an irresponsible approach to waste management. Councilor Rakhi Ravikumar took the pledge related to responsible waste management policy in a function presided over by Education Arts and Sports Standing Committee Chairperson Saranya S.S. Harita Kerala Mission State Coordinator TN Seema delivered the keynote address. Gayatri Babu, chairperson of the standing committee on health, submitted a report on the waste management systems of the municipality. Development Affairs Standing Committee Chairperson Shahida Naser, Health Supervisor B. Biju and others spoke.
Municipal Secretary Binu Francis led the discussions. The District Coordinators of the Sanitation Mission and Haritha Kerala Mission interacted with the students. KS WMP Project Director Dr. Divya S Iyer participated. After discussions on seven topics related to waste management, the students submitted their observations to the municipal authorities for consideration.
