Traditional medical equipment at GAF Health Fair

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The health fair held in conjunction with the 5th Global Ayurveda Fest is rich in traditional and unique instruments used for Ayurvedic treatments. Dhara Pathi and accessories used in Dhara, a traditional Ayurvedic treatment practiced in Kerala since ancient times, and accessories are on display at the fair.A dhara mat made of wormwood is used for dhara with different types of oils and substances. The public can see the pathi used for Murdhadhara, which is performed on the head, Sarvagamdhara, which is performed on the whole body, and Ekangadhara, which is performed only on a specific part of the body. The mat is four feet long and one foot wide, and the part that rests on the head is slightly raised and has a pit behind it so that the dhara dravyam is suspended. It also includes a dharachatti made of earthenware in the shape of a roll.
Machines used for various sveda treatments mentioned in Charaka Samhita are displayed in the fair. The fair explains the different types of machines and their working methods used in sveda, which is a therapeutic method of producing sweat in a person through the application of heat. According to Ayurveda, it is a therapeutic method that helps reduce pain and regulate body temperature. The fair has a steam bath yantra and a vasti yantra that sweats with fire.
Massage chairs made of flowers, ayurkot made of eleven medicinal trees such as aryvep and wormwood, methiodi made of aryvep, hand massager which helps in increasing blood circulation, and body massager made of wormwood can also be seen and bought at the fair. The fair also has modern equipment that can increase the efficiency of different types of machines that grind and dry herbs.
Another attraction of the fair is the extensive collection of books related to Ayurveda. Here you will find leading publications in the field dealing with diseases and Ayurvedic remedies and modern treatments. The fair also has a special exhibition unveiling the history of Ayurveda.
